After the completion of the project, the port will be developed into the largest deep-water port in Cambodia, providing services for 93% of the total large ships passing through the Asia-Pacific region. Freight can directly arrive at the Cambodian port without docking at the ports of Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand or Hong Kong.

Cambodia can ship goods directly to the United States. By then, it will be able to berth ships with 60,000 tons of containers (or 400 standard containers), bringing the total throughput of the port to approximately 1.25 million standard containers per year. Shipping costs are also expected to drop to $200 per container.

It is understood that the second and third phases of the project are expected to cost a total of US$698 million, of which more than US$500 million is a preferential loan from the Japanese government and more than US$100 million is allocated by the Royal Government of Cambodia.
