Why Arch Rubber Fenders Cannot Be Cut to Adjust Length
Date:2025-11-26
Arch rubber fenders are widely used in ports, docks, and offshore structures due to their high energy absorption, durability, and reliable performance. However, one question we often receive from customers is:
Can the fender length be cut or adjusted on site?
The answer is No — and here’s why.
1. Steel Plates Embedded at Both Ends
Unlike other rubber products that can be trimmed freely, arch fenders are specially engineered structural components. At both ends of an arch fender, steel mounting plates are embedded inside the rubber body. These steel plates are designed to ensure secure anchoring to the quay wall or marine structure and maintain structural stability during vessel impact.
Because of this internal steel structure, cutting the fender will damage the integrity of the steel plates, making the fender unsafe and unusable.
2. Length Should Confirmed Before Production
Since the mounting sections contain steel, the length of arch fenders cannot be shortened after manufacturing. Therefore, it is extremely important to confirm the exact installation length and quantity before placing an order.
If the required length differs from our standard sizes, we can produce customized lengths according to your project needs during manufacturing, rather than modifying them afterwards.
