Why Pre-Drilled Holes are critical for dock fenders

Fenders such as leg-type, arch, and PI-type designs are not simple rubber products—they are engineered systems with embedded steel plates inside. These plates provide strength, ensure proper load distribution, and allow the fender to be securely fixed to the quay wall.

During manufacturing, mounting hole positions are determined at the mold stage. This ensures that the holes align precisely with the internal steel plates and meet design requirements. Because of this structure, supplying fenders without pre-drilled holes is not a practical option.

If holes are drilled after production, it can seriously damage the fender. On-site drilling may cut through or miss the embedded steel plates, weaken the structure, and cause tearing or cracking in the rubber. In addition, it is very difficult to maintain accurate hole spacing and alignment under site conditions, which may lead to installation issues or uneven load distribution.

To avoid these risks, the best practice is to confirm all installation details before production, including bolt spacing, hole size, and layout. This allows the factory to supply ready-to-install fenders that ensure proper performance, easier installation, and full warranty coverage.

In short, pre-drilled holes are essential for both safety and reliability.
